Privacy Policy
As a general rule, preptv does not post the last name of elementary students while identifying their participation in a school activity or promoting their accomplishment in Knowledge, Character,
and Leadership.  Likewise preptv does not include any reference to a student in a posted jpeg or mpeg image file name.  These precautions should eliminate parental concerns about a child being
identified as the result of an Internet search.  However, in the event that a parent is uncomfortable with a posted text or image, preptv will remove the text or image upon notification.

In any science class, the first subject is always the Scientific Method. The
Prep's 8th graders started out by studying the scientific method in a
sequence of 3 lectures.

The students always start out with a lab that allows them to see how and
why we use the steps of the scientific method. This year Mrs. Wyatt
ventured away from the common labs such as pulse rate changes and
the black box.  She chose to do the penny lab this year because the
students have to uncover a testable hypothesis all on their own with this
lab.

The students received a penny (two if they need it for their hypothesis),

a glass of water, pipettes and their keen brains. They came up with a hypothesis using the knowledge that they had
to get as many drops on the penny as they could. Most students picked a side of the penny making the difference
and others picked the year of the penny (new versus old).

"Although, you always have those certain students that just shock you speechless," said Mrs. Wyatt.  "For this first
lab, Dallas Lawerence and Colby Samaniego blew me away when they started testing two more hypotheses that no
one else thought of. They piped up and said '… but Mrs. Wyatt, the amount of drops on a penny could also depend
on the size of the water drop and how far away you are.'”

After playing with water and coming up with some good viable results and some off the wall results, the students
started writing their first lab report together. They were instructed to finish it at home and turn it in by the end of the
week.
