Cast of 'Is He Dead?' funny and entertaining
The second week of the 2007-2008 school year
saw the Prep’s first summer show performance.
An expansion from the traditional two shows a
year, the production “Is He Dead?” held several
unexpected surprises for the Prep's High School
Theatre Director, Ms. Stone.

“I confess I was skeptical.  We've never mounted a
show in such a short amount of time.  Also we had
a very rookie cast—mostly freshmen or actors who
had not worked with us before—you don’t expect a
rookie team to win the series, but I think we got to
the playoffs which was both surprising and
gratifying,” said Ms. Stone.

“What the cast did do beautifully, was raise the bar
for the standards of conduct among the cast.  We
did not have one actor who dropped the ball - not
knowing their lines or missing rehearsals; we didn't
have any bickering among the cast, they were all
active problem-solvers and that’s a wonderful
thing," continued Ms. Stone.  "Our expectations of
cast behavior are higher than they've ever been
because of this casts’ focus, drive and general
goodness.  It’s a wonderful thing.”

The production of “Is He Dead?” attracted large
crowds with the student matinée being the biggest
in school history  “The exposure and acceptance
of the arts on campus is defiantly evident,” said
Ms. Stone.“ The
preptv on campus broadcasts
and Internet webcasts have certainly helped us.”

The addition of a third mainstage production offers
students more performance opportunities,

preparing them for life in community, professional or college
theatre," said Ms. Stone.  “With the larger high schools, you
may have several more performance opportunities, but the
actor to production ratio is quite high—you may only be cast in
a leading role once or twice during your high school career.
Here however, we have added additional performances with the
one-act play class and the summer show, while still maintaining
a lower actor to production ratio, which equals more stage time
and experience for students.”
