category. "The really important thing to remember is that we are competing against all levels of schools including 4A
and 5A schools," said North Pointe's Speech Coach Mr. Ward. "We are a small school in the 2A category and yet
here we are holding our own. Many of these schools have giant banners on their walls from winning state
competitions for many years in a row. For our little team to go up against these schools and actually beat many of
them is inspiring to say the least."
The Dobson Tournament was only the Prep's second tournament of competition. "There are big things ahead for us
in this and upcoming years," continued Coach Ward. "In fact, we are truly the little team that could!" North Pointe
finished 15th out of 38 schools in total team points.
North Pointe's Speech Team went head to head at the
Dobson High School Speech Tournament with more
established teams from much larger schools and placed
two students into the semi-final round.
The Prep's Frankie Marchi and Chris Dalpe placed 6th
out of the 80 students ho competed in their category.
Alexis Green and Michael Denham also placed very high
with Michael missing simi's by one place and Alexis
actually finishing in a four-way tie and missed semi's by
a sixteenth of a point.
The tournament categories included Lincoln Douglas
Debate, Serious Prose, Humorous, Duo-Interpretation,
Duo Acting, Expository Speaking, Original Oratory,
Poetry, Impromptu, and Extemporaneous Speaking.
Prep Speech Team members performed in each of the
speaking venues competing with 50-80 students in each
