North Pointe's Speech Team had 12 entries in the categories of Duo-Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Original
Oratory, and Serious Prose. Seven team members qualified for semi-final rounds, ultimately leading to four students
moving on to final rounds and earning the Prep a fourth place finish.
Sophomore Melody Chrispen also performed impressively and earned a spot in the semi-finals round with her prose
piece "All I Ever Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten" by Robert
Fulgium. In addition to her State Finalist presentation in Duo-Interpretation,
Otto earned a spot in the Original Oratory semi-final round as well with her
self written speech. Karen Ratliff earned a spot as first alternate in
semi-finals in the category of Impromptu Speaking.
The Prep's Speech Coach Troy Ward was in complete awe of his amazing
team saying over and over again, "And this is just our first year... look what
we've done." The entire team rallied behind Coach Ward at the end of the
tournament with what can only be described as victory cries after an
intense battle. Choking up with tears of pride, Coach Ward addressed the
team, letting them know that this is just the beginning for a team with state
finalists. "What we've done here is near impossible," said Ward, "but we've
done it just the same. More than earning titles and impressing everyone
who understands the degree of difficulty involved with what it is we do, we
have earned the right to call ourselves a winners."
