Prep students compete for scholarships
North Pointe Prep brought a record number of students to this year’s State Thespian Conference—a two-day
extravaganza of workshops, seminars, performances and competitions held at the Arizona Civic Center on November
16 & 17. “The Conference brings thespians from all over the state,” said Ms. Stone, who chaperones the event.
“Students have a chance to see what other schools are performing, get audition advice and even compete for
college scholarships.”
This year, The Prep had three Seniors compete for college scholarships, Andrea Gray, Mike Murphy and Brittany
Laidlaw. “I’m pleased to announce that every one of our students got called back by at least two universities—from
New York Conservatory of the Arts to Stephens College, to local community colleges—and all these institutions want
to see our students audition again," said Ms. Stone. "They stand a fair chance of getting some good offers.”
The other 17 students attended workshops throughout the day, including juggling, stage combat and audition
techniques. Tiffany Green, a featured dancer in the recent film, Hairspray, was also on hand to teach dance
combinations and offer advice for those students wanting to pursue a musical theatre career in NYC.
“It was a very successful weekend. The kids had a lot of fun. We all learned a lot and were inspired to achieve
greater excellence with our future productions," said Ms. Stone.
