Falcon Baseball Game Summaries
Game 15 vs Scottsdale Christian
The Falcons played their fifth game in a week against the Eagles of Scottsdale Christian. The long week of games
took its toll as the Falcons fell 24-1 to one of the strongest teams in the league. There were few highlights to relish,
as Josh Fitch was the only Falcon to reach base, collecting a double in the second inning. Fitch later scored on a
passed ball for the Prep’s only run.
Game 14 vs Northwest Christian
The Prep's 4-game winning streak came to an end, as they dropped a key game to Northwest Christian 17-6.
Starter Jacob Effron gave a great effort on the mound, but a string of errors allowed the Crusaders to put up ten
runs in the bottom of the first, despite only one hit. The Falcons picked themselves up and managed to trade
blows for the next four innings, but the costly first inning mistakes were the story of the game. Russell Alvarado hit
a home run and Taylor Pubins and Caleb Arliskas each went 2-3.
Game 13 vs Westwind
Russell Alvarado led the Falcons to their fourth straight victory against Westwind 14-1. Russell threw a complete
game for the Prep giving up only 3 hits and striking out 7. At the plate, he went 3-5 with a home run. In addition to
Alvardo's efforts, Josh Fitch went 3-3 with his own home run, and Caleb Arliskas went 2-3 and collected two RBI's.
Game 12 vs Horizon Honors
Taylor Pubins needed less than 50 pitches to put away the Eagles of Horizon Honors, as the Falcons won their
third straight, 12-1. Pubins had 9 K's, and went 2-3 at the plate. Russell Alvarado and Josh Fitch each hit line-
drive home runs. Jacob Effron went 2-3 with two doubles, and Zach Neuman went 2-3 with two big RBI's.
Game 11 vs Canyon State
The Prep continued its winning ways by defeating Canyon State 12-2. Taylor Pubins (gets win striking out 7) and
Russell Alvarado combined on the mound to shut down the Rams’ offense, allowing only two runs over 7 innings.
At the plate, the Falcon bats were active all day. Pubins went 3-4 with an 2 RBI's, Josh Fitch went 3-5 with 2 RBI's,
and Matt Smith went 2-3. The big hit of the game came from Caleb Arliskas (2-4) who belted a scorching double
down the right field line to score two.
Game 10 vs Arizona Lutheran Academy
The Falcon Varsity Baseball team collected their third win of the year in a decisive 6-2 victory at ALA. Jacob Effron
tallied 10 K's and scattered four hits, while aggressive base-running and timely hitting propelled the Falcons'
offense.
Game 9 vs Phoenix Country Day
The Prep fell one run short in a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Phoenix Country Day. Senior Taylor Pubins was on the
mound for the North Pointe and pitched one of the best games of his career. Pubins threw a complete game, and
struck-out 13 Eagles, while allowing only two hits. The Prep’s Russell Alvarado and Matt Smith each tallied two hits,
leading the Prep offense, as the Falcons built a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the wheels came off
for the Prep, and costly mistakes led to a 4-run comeback by the Eagles. “These are the kind of games that define
you as a team,” said coach David Meredith. “We should learn from this, and use it to become better ball players,
and better people.”
Game 8 vs Valley Christian
In a tough 16-5 loss, the Falcons took on Valley Christian’s ace pitcher. The Falcons started well, plating two runs
in the first, while holding Valley scoreless. The Prep fared well at the plate all game long, but costly mistakes led to
some big innings by Valley. Offensive highlights for the Falcons included Taylor Pubins going 2-3 and Josh Fitch
bringing in two runs.
Game 7 vs Scottsdale Christian
The game was tightly contested in the early innings, but eventually, Scottsdale opened up a lead, and put away the
Falcons 13-3. The big offensive highlight for the Falcons was a triple by Josh Fitch that scored two of the Prep’s
three runs.
Game 6 vs Northwest Christian
The Prep put up some decent offensive numbers but were still out-hit and out-scored by a strong opponent in
Northwest Christian. NCS beat the Falcons 16-4, but the Prep looked good at the plate. Taylor Pubins went 2-3,
with a 2-run home run. Jacob Effron got two hits and scored twice. Josh Fitch collected two RBI’s.
Game 5 vs Horizon Honors
North Pointe won its second game in a row by defeating Horizon Honors 15-7. The game was called in the top of
the 7th for darkness. With the game still tight, Caleb Arliskas got a huge 2 out RBI hit.
Game 4 vs Canyon State
Prep baseball gots its first victory of the season by defeating Canyon State 9-4. Taylor Pubins got the win striking
out 11 and allowing only 2 hits. Josh Fitch and Jacob Effron were all 2-4 and Matt Smith and Tony Orona were
2-3. Taylor Pubins also added a triple to help his cause.
Game 3 vs Phoenix Country Day
The Falcons were dismantled by Phoenix Country Day in a game that saw the Falcons make too many errors.
Taylor Pubins was impressive on offense, going 2-3 with a solo home run, but that was the only scoring from the
Prep in a game that ended 16-1.
Game 2 vs Valley Christian
The Falcons made their best effort, but were outmatched by a strong Valley Christian team that boasts 14
senior players. The shining moment for the Falcons came from Josh Fitch, who belted a 3-run home run to right
centerfield – the first of his career. Ultimately, the Falcons fell 13-3.
Game 1 vs Phoenix Christian
The Falcons opened the 2008 Baseball season with a strong offensive effort exploding for 11 hits against the
Cougars from Phoenix Christian. Senior Josh Fitch started the game with a first pitch triple and the Falcons never
looked back leading the entire game up to the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 6th, however, Phoenix Christian
scored four runs on two costly throwing errors and took the season opener, 9-8. "We beat them in every area
except the scoreboard," said the Prep's Coach David Meredith after the game. Senior Taylor Pubins led North
Pointe's offensive attack going 2-4 with a home run, double, and 3 RBI's. Sophomore Russell Alvarado also had a
big game going 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Pubins took the loss with 9 k’s, 6 walks, and 8 hits.
