Lady Falcon Softball Game Summaries
Games 12 and 13 vs Horizon Honors
The Lady Falcons took two from Horizon Honors improving their regular season record to 6-7. Falcon pitchers
Claire Shortsleeve and Hosanna Alvarado threw back to back dominating performances. “I went into the game
focused and really worked on hitting my spots.” said Alvarado. The Preps offense and defense worked hand in
hand helping to earn the wins. “Offensively, we have stepped up so much," said the Coach Audra Brown. "We are
hitting the ball really solid. Defensively, we are making the plays that we need to, and have gotten really
aggressive in the field.”
Game 10 vs Westwind
The Lady Falcons defeated Westwind 14-1. Falcons pitcher Claire Shortsleeve threw a 1 hitter with 7 strikeouts.
Shortsleeve had a positive outlook on today's events, "I felt very supported by my team. I was confident that they
had my back so the pitching just fell into place."
Game 9 vs Horizon Honors
The Lady Falcons defeated Horizon Honors 18-15 this afternoon for their second win in a row. Freshman pitcher
Hosanna Alvarado obtained the win, tallying 6 strike outs for the books. Offensively, the Falcons gained a 7-0 lead
in the first inning. Horizon Honors battled back forcing the Falcons to push more runs across the plate to secure
the win. Senior, Celina Martinez continued to lead the Falcons offensively going 3 for 4 with a single, double, and a
triple. In the bottom of the fifth, Sophomore Shyla Tippit drilled a line drive shot to far right field hitting her first home
run this season.
Game 8 vs Arizona Lutheran
The Lady Falcons defeated Arizona Lutheran 14-4 for their second win of the season. Falcon pitcher Claire
Shortsleeve held Arizona Lutheran to 4 runs, giving up only 3 hits, and striking out 4 batters. Shortsleeve not only
shined on the mound but also at the plate. She went 3 for 4 with a triple in the 4th inning. The Falcons offense
took control of the game early scoring 3 runs in the first inning. "Our offense decided early that they were going to
take control of this game," said the Prep's Coach Audra Brown. "Throughout the game we really focused on taking
the game inning by inning."
Game 7 vs Phoenix Country Day
The Lady Falcons faced Phoenix Country Day and showed some big improvements. Celina Martinez, the Prep's
senior catcher, went 2 for 2 for the day. In the top of the fifth inning Martinez reached base on her second hit and
moved to second due to a throwing error by PCDS. North Pointe freshman, Taylor Little, hit in Martinez to score
the Falcons only run of the afternoon. The Prep fell short to PCDS 11-1.
Game 5 vs Westwind
Freshmen Hosanna Alvarado pitched a complete game and won her first game as a Falcon defeating Westwind,
17-12. The victory was the team's first regular season win of the year.
Game 1 vs Phoenix Christian
Although the Falcons came up short in the season opener against Phoenix Christian, the experience was very
valuable. "This game was really important for us to see where we are at," said the Prep's Coach Audra Brown.
"There are many positives that we are walking away with. We know where we need to strengthen up, and we saw
some really shining moments.” One of those moments was when freshmen first baseman Hosanna Alvarado
knocked a homerun to deep center field late in the third inning. The same inning on defense, Alvarado dove for a
pop-up and then touched first completing the Falcon’s first double play of the season. “Hosanna has a lot of heart
and is always willing to do anything to get the job done.” Coach Brown said.
