Prep is One of America's Best High Schools
Newsweek Magazine has officially named North Pointe Preparatory as "One of America's Best High Schools!

According to Newsweek Magazine, North Pointe Preparatory is one of the top 1,000 schools in America and
is now one of the top high schools in Arizona.  The Prep made the prestigious 2007 list and is listed on the
Newsweek website.

"These are all exceptional schools. Every one is in the top 5 percent of 27,000 American high schools measured
this way," said Jay Matthews, the creator of the challenge index, the ratio devised to indicate which schools were the
most demanding and supportive of all students.  The challenge index takes the number of Advanced Placement,
International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in a given year and divides it
by the number of graduating seniors.

Newsweek Magazine reported that The Prep had an index of 1.432, which placed it at
898th in the nation and
5th in Arizona (refine search=Arizona).  The top 100 schools were listed in the magazine and the rest of the top 5
percent are listed online.

"It is exciting to see schools like ours be recognized for challenging all students with the rigors of Advanced
Placement (AP).  When we opened our doors six years ago and decided to require that all students take AP classes
(freshman take AP World History, sophomores take AP American History, juniors take AP Government, and seniors
take AP Spanish and AP Literature & Composition) we did not realize that we were a part of a new movement.  We
just believed that any student would learn more in an AP or honors class than in a regular class.  It is nice to know
that the idea has gained support," said Pointe Schools Superintendent Johnson.
