Winter Arts Festival showcases North Pointe's talent
The Prep's 10-day Winter Arts Festival was a smashing success as audiences filled the Theatre each night and then the Nest for the finale. The
festival began with the High School Theatre Department's presentation of 'You Can't Take It With You.' The play was followed by nightly performances
by the Prep's Arts classes: piano, musical theatre, guitar, choir and band. The festival also featured a gallery presenting traditional and electronic arts
class work. A Prep Assembly on the final day highlighted the weeks top performers. Click for DVD order form Click for prep assembly gallery
Auidences laugh through Prep's 'You Can't Take It With You'
Audiences laughed throughout the Prep's High School Theatre presentation of 'You Can't Take It With You' and were
highly entertained by the cast of this hilarious comedy. The cast, led by Sophomore James Daly as Grandpa, Lauren Rom
as Alice Sycamore and Zachary Gage as Tony Kirby “were amazing!” said Mrs. Gray. “I am so proud of them! This
production looked like a professional production because of the hard work and talent of this incredible cast! The stage,
fashioned into an old Victorian house living room, was equally impressive. “The hard work of the cast, crew and my theatre
classes really paid off when people told me how excited they were about the way the room looked and how believable it was
as a house.” Several cast members also contributed to the believability of the performance by altering their hair for the
show - Tim Barker, Greyson Lamothe and Melody Chrispen. But the most extreme transformation was made by James
Smith. He shaved his head only on the top so his character could be partially bald. Click for photo gallery
Throughout the Prep’s Winter Arts Festival, the traditional and electronic arts classes had their artwork showcased in the
Theatre Lobby during each evening performance. Viewers were impressed with the work being done in these classes and
expressed their appreciation for the quality of the work and professional results that had been achieved. The electronic
illustration, digital photography and printmaking classes were particularly strong. “The work is very impressive, especially
considering that several of these classes have only been offered for just over a year, and many of these students are in
their first art class,” commented the Prep’s Director of Arts, Ian Morrison. “Our goal is to prepare students for a variety of
opportunities as they venture-out into both college and the professional world. The skills that are being taught in our
traditional and electronic arts classes will be invaluable to their future success, and provide a creative outlet that hopefully
is both rewarding and enjoyable.” Click for Electronic Arts gallery Click for Traditional Arts gallery

Piano Recital features beginners through advanced players
The piano recital featured a wide variety of songs and performance levels. Sarah Woodwick only began playing in August
of this year but played a beautiful “O Holy Night.” One of the more advanced students, Gabrielle Goshow, who has been
playing for almost two years, played a piece from the movie Pride and Prejudice. Another show stopper was a duet
performed by Anna Morgan and Nicole Rock. It is not easy to play two parts on one piano but they did it very well and also
performed at the Prep Assembly. All of the students did a wonderful job and worked very hard to play their pieces for a
large audience. Click for photo gallery
Students combine acting and singing for Musical Theatre review
The Musical Theatre class opened their review with ‘One’ from A Chorus Line. The dance was choreographed by Alexis
Green. Alexis also performed ‘Nothing’ from the same musical. Chris Dalpe and Madi Winger brought the house down with
their ultra-silly rendition of ‘The Song that Goes Like This’ from Monty Python’s musical spoof Spamalot. Brea Hendrix
performed the Avenue Q hit ‘Fine Fine Line’ with a depth that is beyond most seventeen year olds. Karen Ratliff was
believable as the wistful Elphaba from Wicked singing ‘The Wizard and I’. Brettoni Nielson-Foshee was the soulful Mary
Magdalene from Jesus Christ Superstar singing ‘I Don’t Know how to Love Him’. Samantha Bravo belted out a lovely ‘Vanilla
Ice Cream’ from She Loves Me. She also performed the title song from Phantom of the Opera with Michael Denham.

Guitar classes draw standing room only crowd for Recital
The guitar recital was a great success as students had a great time performing to a standing room only crowd. There was a
variety of repertoire for the evening ranging from traditional carols to contemporary pop/rock songs. One section of
students played an arrangement of “Kryptonite,” while another section played an arrangement of the classic “Trepak.”
There were also outstanding ensemble performances and a few solo pieces. A highlight of the recital was Senior David O’
Connor’s electric guitar solo, “Snowcapped Romance.” Click for photo gallery
North Pointe Choirs bring holiday cheer to the Prep's Arts Festival
The Winter Arts Festival featured performances by all four Prep Choirs. Out in the chilly winter evening in the ‘Prep Alley’
the Premier Choir warmed everyone up with Christmas carols, as the crowd gathered for the show. The night was kicked-
off by the Show Choir – a special group of singers who work after school and combine choreography and dance elements
in their numbers. They donned striped stockings and Santa hats, singing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” from the Dr.
Seuss classic. The Show Choir was followed by the first group of junior high performers of the week. The Junior High
Choir sang traditional holiday tunes, and created a light, cheerful mood. Next up was the High School Concert Choir, who
sang uplifting and hopeful songs that warmed the heart. The High School Premier Choir followed with three songs of their
own, bringing classical pieces to the mix. Finally, the Show Choir returned with one last number to round out the evening.

Prep Bands headline the Winter Arts Festival finale
The Prep pulled out all the stops for the Winter Arts Festival finale creating an amazing concert venue in the Nest complete
with live video viewed on a huge screen allowing audience members to see close-up views of their favorite performers. The
concert featured classic holiday tunes by the Advanced Band, Beginning Band, Junior High Band and flute and percussion
ensembles. "Each night this week has been ‘standing room only’ in the Prep Theatre and with an anticipated record crowd
we knew we would have to go with the larger venue.” The Nest turned-out to be the perfect location as concert-goers were
treated to an amazing performance. A live silent auction also ran throughout the show raising funds for the band’s annual
trip to Disney’s Magic Music Days workshop in California. The Prep’s traditional and electronic arts gallery was also on
display. “The band provided a perfect capstone to a truly incredible Winter Arts Festival,” continued Mr. Morrison. “Mr. and
Mrs. Hutson have done such a great job with the band." Click for photo gallery
