The students in Honors Physics embarked on their first major project of the year, building bridges out of toothpicks and glue with the goal of being able
to support the maximum weight possible. Students studied a variety of designs and researched architectural techniques in order to create the
strongest bridges possible. The winner was the bridge built by Nathan Rice and Bryce Harris, which held an impressive 24.5 pounds. Other top
contenders were Mallory Johnson and Alicia Frazier (15.5 pounds), as well as Danielle Heyer and Chelsea Gillespie (15 pounds).
Additionally, students competed to make their bridges be the most aesthetically pleasing. The winners in each class, determined by closed ballot, were
Shea Hamrick (5th hour), Kat Zich (6th hour), and Ashleigh Chavez (7th hour). Students did an excellent job in their first task and had their appetites
whetted for future projects. Next up: bottle rockets!
