Physics students engaged in some middle-age action as they fired off golf balls from their homemade war machines! Students were able to build a war
machine in one of three categories:

Catapult- Uses a lever arm and is powered by the release of elastic energy, often springs
Trebuchet- Uses a lever arm and is powered by a falling counterweight
Ballista- A giant crossbow-type weapon with no lever arm powered by the release of elastic energy

Their goal was to construct a projectile machine that would fire a golf ball a minimum of ten feet. A variety of designs were in evidence, and without
exception the physics students proved themselves up to the tasks. The best war machines cleared an impressive one hundred feet, and belonged to
the following students:

    Ashley Chavez - Catapult
Nathan Martin and Keely McDowell - Trebuchet
Damien Reichenberger, James Nuth and Angel Clafton - Ballista
Dakota Kallas, Tanner Kallas, Dakota Martin and Matt Malin - Trebuchet

The war machine project is the culmination of a semester’s worth of study and the students will now take a much deserved break from physics projects
for the holidays. When they come back next semester, they have more fun physics to look forward to as our focus switches from motion and moves
onto the exciting world of light & sound!
