Physics students participated in the annual Mousetrap Race. Students used their knowledge of rotational motion, torque and inertia to design and build
racers powered solely by the release of a mousetrap spring. The racers were judged in three categories: aesthetics, speed and (most importantly)
distance traveled. All three physics periods (5th, 6th, and 7th) had victors in each category as follows:

Aesthetics
Damien Reichenberger & Angel Clafton (5th), Marissa Zielinski, Corinne Peterson, & Brooke Adamo (6th), and Mallory Johnson, Alicia Frazier, &
Jonathon Burgmeier (7th)

Speed
Lauren Rom, Ben Cleaveland, & Kim See (5th), Axl Pacheco, Andrew Ochoa, & Cristian San Martin (6th) and Zac Kurth (7th)

Distance
Nathan Rice, Bryce Harris, & Michael Johnson (5th), Annika Vanna, Katie Komos, & Keely McDowell (6th) and Shyla Mae Tippit & Alyssa Johnson (7th)

The overall winners for the day were the team of Shyla Mae Tippit & Alyssa Johnson whose racers went an impressive 13.75 m (45 feet) and cleared
the half-court line in the Nest.
