Varsity Soccer 2009-2010 Schedule
Game 1 at Sedona
North Pointe's first Varsity Soccer game at Sedona Red Rock High School was a huge success. The team played together with the great support of the
Prep's Band and over 100 students who traveled to the game. "The team played hard and battled throughout the match," said Coach Scot Smith.
Although the final result was a 5-3 loss, the game was very close. "There were several great performances in the game," Coach Smith continued,
"Senior Joseph Tabor scored 2 goals and constantly put pressure on the Sedona defense. Freshmen Daniel Rodriguez played great in the mid field
and scored a goal. Sophomore Justin Tabor and Junior Froilan Maldonaldo played extremely well on defense and in the mid field."

Game 2 at Arizona Lutheran Academy
The North Pointe Varsity Soccer Team got its first win with a 4-0 victory over Arizona Lutheran Academy. Goals were scored by Froilan Maldonado, Joe
Tabor, Justin Tabor, and Tyler Hayes. Tyler scored his goal in impressive fashion, heading the ball in on a nice corner kick by Justin Tabor. The team
controlled the game throughout the match and earned its first win in a dominating performance.

Game 3 at Phoenix Christian
The North Pointe soccer team had its finest outing thus far in a convincing 4-1 victory over Phoenix Christian. The Falcons moved the ball well, created
multiple scoring opportunities, and played strong defense.  Joe Tabor recorded an impressive “hat trick,” scoring three goals over a stretch of about 5
minutes. Anthony Casselman also scored when a shot by Froilan Maldonado was deflected out by the goalie. Ben Carlos had a strong game on
defense and Kristi Hayes performed admirably in the midfield. Justin Tabor also contributed another solid all-around performance.

Game 4 at Gilbert Classical
North Pointe won again in dominating fashion in a 7-0 victory over Gilbert Classical.  Joe Tabor had another strong game, scoring 4 goals in the first
half.  Justin Tabor, Daniel Rodriguez, and Anthony Casselman also scored.  The Falcons worked well as a team with five of the goals being assisted -
two by Justin Tabor - and even one by our goalie, Alan Garcia.

Game 5 at Florence
The Prep lost in overtime, 1-0, to undefeated and #2 ranked Florence. Florence scored with about eight minutes left in overtime play. In an impressive
performance and in a game that could have gone either way, North Pointe out shot Florence 10 to 7 and had 10 corner kicks, with Florence having only
3. The Falcon's play was inspirational throughout, with several players having an excellent game. The defense was outstanding as Florence (averaging
5 goals a game and no less than 3) was held scoreless in regulation. Defenders Randy Cordova, Justin Tabor, Ben Carlos, and Gabe Gil as well as
keeper, Alan Garcia, played incredibly well. Offensively, Joe Tabor put tremendous pressure on the Florence defenders throughout the game and
Froilan Maldonado had an inspiring performance in the midfield.

Game 6 at South Pointe
Having played Florence the night before in a grueling 1-0 loss in overtime, the Prep's Soccer team found themselves facing undefeated (and 7th
ranked at the time) South Pointe.  For fifty nail-biting minutes, the two sides battled fiercely and neither side had yet to score. A ball was passed to
forward Joe Tabor, who made a move and took a shot that was deflected by a South Pointe defender.  The ball went up in the air and a hungry Tyler
Hayes raced to the ball and headed it in for the goal A few minutes later, Justin Tabor scored on a penalty shot outside the eighteen. Not satisfied,
minutes later he scored again, this time on a penalty shot from about 40 yards! The fans were breathless. Goalie Allan Garcia and the defense have
given up one goal against two very good teams in back-to-back games.

Game 7 at Bourgade Catholic
The Falcons continued their winning ways with a nice win over a determined and physical Bourgade team. The Prep's Soccer team scored six times in a
spirited 6-2 win. Joe Tabor had five goals and Anthony Casselman added one. Each goal was assisted, with Justin Tabor having three assists, Angel
Bernal two, and Josh Herrera one.

including a few that brought cheers from the crowd. The defense once again played incredibly well. Christi Hayes and Angel Bernal also stepped it up in
the midfield and had great games.

Game 9 at Horizon Honors
The Falcons played a tenacious Horizon Honors squad on Tuesday afternoon. Tied 1-1 at the half, the Prep came up short in the second half, losing 3-
1. The game turned on an unfortunate play in which the ball appeared to be out of bounds near North Pointe's goal before being knocked into the goal
by a Horizon Honors player. Though the Prep battled throughout the game, especially the second half, they struggled to create scoring opportunities.

Game 10 at Arizona Lutheran Academy
North Pointe played great soccer against Arizona Lutheran moving the ball well and creating multiple scoring opportunities. Falcons Alan Garcia, Devin
Haggerty, Angel Bernal, Randy Cordova, and Preston Gender scored their first goals of the season. Joe Tabor and Anthony Casselman added two
goals each. Tyler Hayes also scored a goal and had two assists. The final score was 10-1 with 5 of the goals being assisted.

Game 11 at vs Sedona at Moon Valley
Seniors Devin Haggerty, Randy Cordova, Kristi Hayes, and Joe Tabor celebrated senior night with an impressive 4-1 win over Sedona Red Rock. Devin
and Kristi played admirably in the midfield and about half way through the first half Kristi put the Falcons ahead with a goal off a corner kick. Sedona
responded with a goal late in the half and the score was 1-1 at the half. The two sides battled throughout the second half and with 18 minutes left in the
game, Joe scored the go-ahead goal. Having put constant pressure on the Sedona defense throughout the game, Joe scored two more times to earn a
“hat trick” and put the game away. According to coach Scot Smith, “This was a great team victory with everyone working very hard to contribute to the
win.” The defense, led by Randy Cordova and Justin Tabor, also played another great game, holding a potent offensive Sedona team to one goal.
