North Pointe's Will Tucker wins
prestigious music award
Eighth grade tuba player, Will T. Tucker VI won the Phoenix Youth
Symphony Young Musicians Solo Competition. Will finished first place in the
brass category of the Junior Division. In the 50 years that the competition
has been held, this is the first time a tuba player has won. Will received a full
scholarship to either the NAU music camp in Flagstaff or the Idllywild Music
Camp in Idllywild, California.

The competition was held at Mesa Community College on January 9th. Will
performed “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and was accompanied on piano
by Debbie Hutson, the Prep's Assistant Band Director.

At the conclusion of the event, Will was also accepted into the Symphonic
Winds, one of four touring instrumental groups sponsored by the Phoenix
Symphony Guild. The group rehearses on Wednesday evenings at Central
High School and performs at several venues throughout the year.
