North Pointe's Performing Arts Opportunities
While all of the Arts skills being taught throughout the
Prep's Arts Department can be viewed as a performance,
there is a cultural acceptance of the term 'Performing Arts'
as a reference to the theatre and musical arts.

The Prep has consistently offered elective classes in
Band, Theatre, and Choir, but a new emphasis on the Arts
has added many new courses and faculty to the
Performing Arts area.  Recent renovations to the theatre,
acquisition of many new musical instruments and band
uniforms, and the addition of a band complex for
instrumental music are examples of North Pointe's
commitment to the Performing Arts.

In the area of instrumental music, the Prep now offers

classes in Beginning Band, Advanced Band, Percussion, Guitar, and Piano.  The Prep is so committed to the growth
of our instrumental music program, that we have two full-time band directors.  This is nearly unheard of at a campus
our size.  These dedicated teachers not only cover the wide-variety of instrumental music courses on our campus,
but also travel to Pointe Schools’ elementary academies four days each week to foster Arts education with our
younger students.  The band performs at a variety of events each year.  They hold concerts, support our athletic
teams, and perform at special events and ceremonies, including memorial services, tributes and graduation.

With our junior high theatre program, we offer multiple sections of theatre courses, and perform a minimum of two
mainstage productions each year.  Each production over the past two years has seen a consistent increase in the
number of students trying out, with just under 100 students trying out for our most recent show.  That’s more than a
third of the entire junior high student population.

Our high school theatre curriculum includes a variety of subjects, including Beginning Theatre, Advanced Theatre
and Musical Theatre.  We also offer a special ‘audition-only’ course called ‘One Act Plays’ where selected students
work on smaller vignettes, monologues, and one-act plays.  This class performs multiple times each year to
showcase the pieces they have learned in class.  Our mainstage productions for high school include musicals and
plays, and have expanded to include a production that is prepared during the summer break that kicks-off each new
school year.

Our Prep choirs are led by two amazing teachers.  Both the junior high and high school groups perform several
concerts each year, and like the band, support many of our other events.  At the junior high level, students are
introduced to a variety of musical genres.  The high school group performs many traditional and contemporary
pieces, while a special ‘audition-only’ premiere choir tackles challenging and complex pieces.
