This year, the traditional art classes have expanded in a big
way. The program has more than doubled the number of high
school subjects, and the Prep has increased the junior high art
class to three times the number of sections offered last year. At
the high school level, three new subjects are being offered twice
each year. They include Printmaking, Two-dimensional Design,
and Three-dimensional Design.
“Printmaking allows students to experiment with the traditional
tools used in creating imagery that can be duplicated,” explains
Mrs. Morrison, the Prep’s new art teacher. “Printmaking is the
original medium for imagery that is mass-produced. Real-world
applications include posters, book illustrations and fine art
prints.”

students on two main things – the ability to create good designs, and familiarizing students with multiple art
mediums. Mrs. Morrison explains, “While both classes feature a lot of different projects, the 2D class features
mediums such as pencils, paint, ink and collage, while the 3D class features sculptural mediums, such as foam,
clay, wire and wood.” Both the 3D and 2D classes are currently working on set designs for the upcoming Prep
Theatre production of “Into the Woods”.
In addition to these new classes, Juniors and Seniors also have the option of earning Dual Enrollment college
credits in the traditional mediums of Drawing and Watercolor. These subjects are the two longest-running subjects
in the traditional arts at the Prep. Juniors and Seniors enrolled in Drawing or Watercolor are eligible to register for
credits at Glendale Community College for the work done in class here at the Prep. Students who are interested in
these new courses, and students who have questions about dual enrollment in the traditional or electronic arts,
should contact Mr. Morrison.
