Beginning Art
An introduction to the basic elements of art; line, color, value, shape, and texture. Students will learn the seven
Elements of Art and how to incorporate them in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional work; color theory and the
ability to mix colors; and the development of a good composition.

Beginning Band
This course is designed to teach students the basics of playing an instrument. Instruction is given in music reading
(theory) as well as basic instrumental skills. The class is divided into group instruction time, individual practice time,
individual instruction, and individual and group testing with both written and playing tests.
Grade: 7-9
Length: 2 Semesters
Prerequisite: None

Beginning Guitar
No prior musical training is needed for this class. Students will learn the basics of playing the acoustic guitar.
Students learn and utilize the fundamentals of music notation, music reading skills, tone production, intonation,
elements of music theory, and listening skills as well as development of proper attitude with emphasis on group
participation.

Beginning Piano
Beginning piano is a course for students without formal piano study and those returning to piano study after an
extended absence. Students will learn to read musical notation, terms, symbols, basic technique, basic keyboard
theory, and explore a diverse repertoire.  
By the end of the semester students will be able to read music and obtain a repertoire list including songs they have
chosen and the songs studied in the book. They will also be able to read musical symbols and play them accurately.
This course is a foundation to playing any instrument.

Computer Skills
This class builds a foundation for students to use computing technology throughout their high school time and
beyond. Including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and multi media.
Digital photography, illustration, publishing and movie making are also explored. Current software is used and
students are encouraged to use content from other curriculum to complete their assignments.

Jr. High Band
This course is designed to develop skills learned in Beginning Band. Students perform at junior high events, junior
high games and concerts.

Jr. High Choir
Jr. High Choir is an elective course that introduces students to the fundamentals of musical language, vocal
technique and musicianship.  Students  learn basic music theory, listening skills, and performance skills. No prior
musical training is needed for enrollment in this class.

Jr. High Theatre
Jr. High Theatre is an elective course designed to introduce students to the basic elements of theatre arts.  This
class covers theatre history, theatre vocabulary and terminology and acting.  Activities include pantomime, vocal
practice, impromptu, monologues, and scene acting.  Tests will include vocabulary and history.  All performances will
be graded using performance rubrics.  No prior theatrical training is needed for enrollment in this class.

As a general rule, preptv does not post the last name of elementary students while identifying their participation in a school activity or promoting their accomplishment in Knowledge, Character,
and Leadership.  Likewise preptv does not include any reference to a student in a posted jpeg or mpeg image file name.  These precautions should eliminate parental concerns about a child being
