Thanks in large part to the Prep's Guidance Counselor Terri
DiNello and her Guidance Center, over 93% of the Class of
2010 have indicated they will continue their education at a
college or university this Fall - many on partial and full-ride
academic scholarships.
North Pointe Prep is one of only seven public High Schools in
the State of Arizona to be credited as a College Prep school
by the North Central Association.
“I am very excited about our Guidance Center," said
DiNello. "I meet with each Freshmen to set up their ECAP
(Education Career Action Plan) and assist them with their
plans as they progress through high school and prepare for
college or a career," said Counselor DiNello.
In addition to the development and implementation of an
individual four-year academic plan, students receive
assistance with decisions regarding honors, advanced
placement and dual enrollment courses, selecting a college or
university and completing scholarship, financial aid and
college application submissions.
The Guidance Center is open before school, 7:30-8;00 am,
during lunch and after school, 2:30-3:30 pm.

Preliminary SAT’s
The PSAT/NMSQT test will be administered to interested North
Pointe Sophomores and Juniors on Wednesday, October 13,
2010. Unlike the SAT test, the PSAT/NMSQT is only given
once a year and measures critical thinking skills that are
important for success in college. The test, which includes
critical reading, math problem-solving, and writing skills, is an
important first step in the college admissions process. It
enables students to get feedback about critical academic
skills, seek information from colleges, enter scholarship
competitions, prepare for the SAT Reasoning Test and initiate
the college-planning process. All Sophomores should take the
test to help prepare them for taking the SAT test their Junior
and Senior years. Taking the test in their Junior year, allows
an opportunity for scholarships as well as more practice for
the SAT. The scores of Juniors are entered into the National
Merit Scholarship program. In addition, many companies that
give financial aid to children of employees use the PSAT
scores as one of the factors in determining the aid given to
students. For more PSAT test information visit preptv.

SAT’s
The SAT is a globally recognized college admission
test that lets students show colleges what they know
and how well they can apply that knowledge.
It tests knowledge of reading, writing and math —
subjects that are taught every day at the Prep. Most
students take the SAT during their Junior or Senior
year of High School, and almost all colleges and
universities use the SAT to make admission
decisions.
Taking the SAT is the first step in finding the right
college — the place where you can further develop
your skills and pursue your passions. But SAT
scores are just one of many factors that colleges
consider when making their admission decisions.
High School grades are also very important. In fact,
the combination of high school grades and SAT
scores is the best predictor of academic success in
college.
Most students take the SAT during their Junior or
Senior year in High School. At least half of all
students take the SAT twice - in the Spring of their
Junior year and in the Fall of their Senior year. Most
students also improve their score the second time
around. For more SAT information visit preptv.
